Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours! How was your weekend? Did you get any painting done? How’s the weather with you? If it’s anything like here, you’ll be soaking up some sunshine now that summer is finally here - and we had a surprise this week, as you could see the Northern Lights from our back garden. What a treat!
And for a bit of fun - Toby really enjoyed the travels to Dorset last week, and here he is, proud as punch, as the new harbour master of Lyme Regis! He really enjoyed sniffing about the Jurassic Coast and exploring all of the fossils! He didn’t find any new ones, though.
There wasn’t a live broadcast last week, as I was travelling back from Dorset, but I’m happy to report that it’s back to the usual schedule tonight. If you’d like to join in, the subject is ‘Florals in Wicker', and it’s airing at 8pm GMT. It’s on soon, so start gathering your paintbrushes and pencils! You can paint along by following the link here: https://loosewatercolours.com/live-broadcast/
There’s also a new Patreon tutorial available that’s slightly more advanced if you fancy testing out your skills - ‘Resting Nest.’ What better way to enjoy the warm weather than by taking some inspiration from the natural world - in this sense, some lovely little eggs sheltered in their mother’s nest? You can find my Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
Just in case you missed it last week, there’s a workshop announcement! I’m hosting a day-long Loose Beginners workshop in rural Leicestershire, so get involved if you happen to be in the UK over the summer. We’ll cover both studio and plein air painting, and there’s hot lunch included - so keep Saturday 29th June 2024 free in your diaries. If you’d like to join in, contact me over at andrew.geeson@btopenworld.com.
I need your help, everyone. I’ve got several photos from my recent travels, all of which I think would make interesting tutorials - but I can’t decide! We’ve got a floral scene from some beautiful gardens, or a still life with some rusty old sea rope. Or what about some quaint old beach huts right by the sea front? It’s up to you. Take a look at the photos below, and then let me know your preference by voting in the poll just below.
And as a final note, if you’d like to be notified whenever there’s a new tutorial available, why not join the Beginners Watercolour Group over on Facebook? It’s a lovely, welcoming community of over three thousand beginner artists, and there’s links posted for all of the live broadcasts and tutorials, so you’ll never miss one again! That’s all from me this week, as I’m off to go and soak up the sun in the garden. Well, not for long, as I’ve got a live broadcast to host! As always, there’s an exclusive tutorial featured at the end of this post for all of you paid subscribers, as an extra special thank you for your support - after all, that’s what helps keep this Substack running! So I hope you all enjoy painting along, and a massive ‘thank you!’ I’ll be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next time, it’s goodbye from Toby and I, and happy painting!
