Hello all, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours. How’ve you all been? Enjoying the summer sun, I hope, especially now that June’s rolled round again. Though it has been raining on and off all through today, so I think the flowers have been enjoying it.

It was so lovely to see all of you at the live broadcast earlier this week, ‘Blue Flower Buddies.’ I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did, and I have to say, I’ve been incredibly impressed with all of your versions that I’ve seen so far. You should all be really proud of yourselves - you’ve come on in leaps and bounds since you’ve started, and you should be very pleased with how far you’ve come.

If you missed this week’s broadcast, you can catch the show here, by following the link: https://loosewatercolours.com/new-loose-techniques/106-blue-flower-buddies

And if you’d like to see everyone’s magnificent paintings for yourselves, why not join the Loose Watercolour Beginners’ Facebook Group? That way, you’ll also get regular reminders and painting tips every week, and you’ll never miss a live broadcast again! You can join here for free via the link: https://m.facebook.com/groups/753969806117098/?ref=share

If you’d like some more painting practice, make sure to check out the new tutorial now available on Patreon, ‘Colourful Rose.’ This one looks at playing with layers, balancing colours, and creating those gorgeous blooming effects that make loose watercolours so satisfying. Simple shapes, flowing colours, and a lot of charm. You can watch it on Patreon here: patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours

And that’s not all! There’s also a new tutorial on loosewatercolours.com which you can try your hand at. ‘Simple Delph’ is a lovely little free class that everyone can try over on the website, so follow the link here to give it a go: https://loosewatercolours.com/take-a-free-class

In terms of my own painting this week, I’ve been looking through the archives for some inspiration, and I stumbled across these three pictures! Which ones do you like best? Let me know in the poll down below.

Paint Historic Wells & Somerset: September 2025

I’ve mentioned this before, but just in case you missed it, I’m hosting a Loose Watercolour workshop in September of next year - 7th September to the 11th September to be exact - in the gorgeous setting of Wells & Somerset, so you can paint along to your heart’s content in the scenic landscape of the English South.

Painting destinations will include places like Kilver Court and Nunney, as well as Vicar’s Close with its stone buildings, Bishop’s Palace with its moat, and the captivating medieval market.

Also this week, I thought we’d take a look at drawing and painting, two key aspects of learning to paint the loose way. So what better way to learn than by watching a tutorial? As always, take a look at the video below and watch it a few times to really get to grasps with what it’s saying, then give it a go yourselves.

Are your brushes looking a bit worn? Then meet The Loose Gang! If you’re in the market for some new brushes, look no further – The Loose Gang brush set is what I use in every single tutorial. They are designed specifically for loose watercolour work and make painting florals and landscapes a breeze. You can grab your set here, or treat someone special this summer: https://loosewatercolours.com/product-category/loose-gang

‘Pretty Pink in Blue.’

That’s all from Toby and I this week, as we’re off to enjoy the last of the summer sun this evening with a walk around the village. As always, though, there’s an exclusive tutorial at the end of this post for all of you paid subscribers, as a huge thank you for all of your generous support. This week’s tutorial is ‘Pretty Pink in Blue,’ and I hope you all enjoy painting along!

I’ll be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next week, it’s goodbye from Toby and I, and have a lovely week, and happy painting!
