Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s edition of Loose Watercolours! How’s your week been? Good, I hope.

It’s been a lovely week here. I was fortunate enough to spend some time at a fantastic festival, which was great fun and a wonderful chance to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the outdoors. The weather has certainly been helping too! Between you and me, it feels like summer has arrived early this year, especially with the heat outside. It feels like June’s the new August - not that I’m complaining. It just means I need to remember the sun cream before heading out to practice some outdoor painting.

It was lovely to see you all at the last live broadcast, which was ‘Summer Doorway’. If you’re looking to paint more this year, why not come along to one of the broadcasts? They’re usually live on Monday nights at 8pm GMT, and you can watch by popping along to Loose Watercolours or Patreon. Either one is fine, as I broadcast on both at the same time.

And if you’re in the mood for some loose painting inspiration, have a browse through these beautiful versions of ‘Summer Doorway’ from this week’s live broadcast. It never ceases to amaze me how one reference can lead to so many unique and creative paintings. I think everyone did a fantastic job, and each piece has its own special character. Let me know if you can spot yours! Click here to enjoy more.

If you fancy some painting practice this week, why not pop over to Patreon and give ‘Springtime Pathway’ a try? It’s everything you could want from a loose watercolour project - quick, full of magic, and packed with beautiful florals. A perfect little painting for a relaxed creative session. If you’d like to paint along, just follow the link here: https://www.patreon.com/cw/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours

There’s also a shiny new tutorial over on the website if you fancy another painting session this week. It’s called ‘Two Good Apples’, and it’s a wonderfully simple watercolour full of fresh colour, character, and loose brushwork. You can watch it by heading over to loosewatercolours.com.

And finally, why not have a go at ‘Tea Cup Pansies’? This charming loose watercolour combines a delicate teacup with colourful pansies to create a lovely floral painting. Watch the video below to paint along, and let me know how you get on!

If you fancy something quick and creative, give ‘Jar of Loose Florals’ a try. This spontaneous watercolour demo is all about letting go, having fun, and creating beautiful flowers with loose, expressive brushstrokes.

Are you planning your summer holidays? What about in autumn? If you’ve got some free time and fancy painting, why not join me in beautiful Portugal from the 17th to the 24th October 2026, where you can enjoy a seven day watercolour holiday with five days tuition! You’ll stay at an amazing four star hotel, the Vila Do Obidos, and have a fantastic time painting all of the beautiful sights of the Iberian Peninsula.

If you’d like to find out more, you can visit Alpha Painting Holidays at alphapaintingholidays.com, by mobile phone at +44 (0) 1934 733877, or by email at joinus@alphapaintingholidays.com.

Are you looking at getting some new brushes this summer? Or perhaps just a summer treat now that the sun’s out? If so, then why not take a look at your very own set of Loose Gang brushes? If you’re interested, you can find them by following the link here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours/shop/loose-gang-brush-set-28089?source=storefront

That’s all from me this week. Summer has certainly arrived with a flourish, and Toby and I have been finding the cooler corners of the house whenever the sun gets a little too enthusiastic! Still, there’s always time for a cup of tea and a moment to enjoy a little painting.

As always, there’s an exclusive tutorial waiting especially for all of you lovely paid subscribers. Your support helps keep Loose Watercolours going, and I’m very grateful for it. This week’s project is ‘Golden Pears’ in a Line & Wash style, so I hope you enjoy painting along.

Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon, but until then, have a wonderful week, enjoy the sunshine, and happy painting!

‘Golden Pears.’
