Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours. This week’s Substack is a little late this week, but for those of you with keen eyes, you may have noticed that I started off the week in Dorset! Dorset, if you’re not familiar, is a lovely coastal county on the south of England, with beautiful scenery such as the Jurassic Coast. It’s a lovely place to spend a few days away from it all, and I was actually working down there for the afternoon, so thought I’d capitalise on the opportunity to soak in the scenery for a while. And little Toby came along for the ride too!
Talking of Toby, he’s been on lots of adventures this week. At one point, we caught him hiding on Borough Hill, pretending to be a cloud. Can you spot him hiding in the photo below?
In painting news, though, this week, I’ve got a workshop to announce! If you’d like to come and paint along with me in the heart of rural Leicestershire, clear your diaries! I’ll be hosting a one-day Loose Beginners workshop on Saturday 29th June 2024, where we’ll be looking at both studio and plein air painting. Whether you’re based in the UK or further afield, everyone’s welcome, and did I mention that there’s hot lunch included? So come and join in the fun in this rewarding workshop, and if you’re interested, contact me at andrew.geeson@btopenworld.com.
If you’d like some more immediate painting practice, however, why don’t you join in on one of the weekly loose watercolour live broadcasts? Last week’s subject was ‘Bees in Lavender,’ and, as always, it was great to see so many of you joining in the fun! If you missed it, the live broadcasts are usually hosted on a Monday at 8pm GMT, and you can find them by following the link here: https://loosewatercolours.com/live-broadcast/
For those of you that are members of my Patreon site, there’s a new tutorial out for you to practice, ‘Sundown Lake.’ With some lovely sunset tones for you to paint with, this is a lovely one to play with some summer tones, especially now that the sun is really coming out to shine! If you’d like to give it a go, you can find my Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
And of course, that’s not all - there’s another new tutorial now available on loosewatercolours.com perfect for the summer season - ‘Patio Floral.’ A beautiful bouquet with some bright colours to paint, it’s perfect for creating a summery mood. So why not give it a go yourself? You can find it here: https://loosewatercolours.com/
And just as an additional note, if you’d like to be notified as to when these new tutorials are posted, why not join in the fun over at the Beginners Watercolour Group on Facebook? Links are posted to all of the new tutorials, as well as reminders for the live broadcasts, so you’ll never miss one again! Plus, it’s an incredibly supporting environment filled with beginner artists and beautiful artwork - so where better to find some inspiration?

That’s all from me this week, but I hope you’ve all enjoyed this mid-week round up. As usual, there’s an exclusive tutorial at the end of this post as a thank you to all of you paid subscribers - it’s support like yours that helps keeps this Substack running. So I hope you all enjoy painting along to some lovely florals! Until next time, though, I hope you all have a lovely week, and happy painting!
