Shades of spring
A beautiful range of hues
Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s edition of Loose Watercolours! How’s your week been? Good, I hope. What have you been up to? There’s been lots of painting going on here, which has been very fun. It’s been florals galore this week, now that spring’s here for good. After all, there’s inspiration round every corner!
It was lovely to see you all at the last live broadcast, which was ‘Bunny Spring.’ If you’re looking to paint more over this year, why not come along to one of the live broadcasts? They’re usually on Monday nights at 8pm GMT, and you can watch them by popping along here: loosewatercolours.com & Patreon (I broadcast on both at the same time.)
In fact, why not take a look at some of these fantastic paintings of ‘Daffodil Days’ from last week? Let me know if you can spot yours.
If you want some painting practice yourselves, then head on over to Patreon, where there’s a brand new tutorial available. This week’s offering is ‘Magnolia Spring,' so perfect for the seasonal weather! You can give it a go by following the link here: https://www.patreon.com/cw/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
And that’s not all! There’s also another tutorial over on Patreon for you to try, ‘Pansies in a Tea Cup.’ You can give it a go by following the link here: https://www.patreon.com/c/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours/posts
In terms of my own painting this week, I’ve once again been honing my plein air skills now that the sun has decided to come out. Here’s a watercolour that I painted earlier - I’ve called it ‘Farm Crossing.’ Can you guess why?

And if that’s inspired you to dig out your own paintbrushes, why not have some loose watercolour fun with a free tutorial, ‘Dancing Tulips?’ It’s a lovely little floral number inspired by all the beautiful shades of spring. Watch it through, then give it a go yourselves - I’m excited to see how you all get on!
What are your plans for the rest of the year? If you’ve got some free time and fancy painting, why not join me in beautiful Portugal from the 17th to the 24th October 2026, where you can enjoy a seven day watercolour holiday with five days tuition! You’ll stay at an amazing four star hotel, the Vila Do Obidos, and have a fantastic time painting all of the beautiful sights of the Iberian Peninsula.
If you’d like to find out more, you can visit Alpha Painting Holidays at alphapaintingholidays.com, by mobile phone at +44 (0) 1934 733877, or by email at joinus@alphapaintingholidays.com.
Are you looking for a new hobby now that the sun is shining? Or maybe you’re just after a new set of paintbrushes after being struck with some loose watercolour inspiration. If so, why not treat yourselves to a set of Loose Gang brushes? If you’re interested, you can find them by following the link here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours/shop/loose-gang-brush-set-28089?source=storefront
That’s all from me this week, as the sun is shining, the birds are singing - I reckon it’s the perfect time for Toby and I to enjoy this warmer weather and go out for a walk. As always, however, this week there’s an exclusive tutorial available especially for all of you lovely paid subscribers - after all, it’s your support that helps keep this Substack running! So I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Greek Urn Floral.’
Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next time, it’s goodbye from us both. Have a lovely week, and happy painting!
