Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours! Autumn is well and truly with us now, as there’s orange leaves on the floor almost everywhere you look! But it’s the perfect time for a bit of seasonal inspiration, I think. With rich oranges and reds all around us, they’re the perfect colours to paint with this week!
It was lovely to see so many of you at the live broadcast last week, and I hope you all enjoyed painting your very own ‘Woodland Mushroom.’ If you’re looking for more seasonal inspiration, this week’s subject is ‘A Taste of Autumn’, and the broadcast is on tonight at 7pm GMT. If you’d like to paint along, just follow the link here: https://loosewatercolours.com/live-broadcast/
If you’re after some more September-themed painting tutorials, you’re in luck, as this week, there’s another new one available on Patreon, ‘Pumpkin Pete.’ With some vibrant oranges and leafy greens to play around with, I’m sure you’ll end up with a pumpkin that looks good enough to eat! If you’d like to give it a go, here’s the link to my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
If you’d rather paint some florals this week, or just fancy a bit of a challenge, there’s another new tutorial over on loosewatercolours.com. ‘Out of the Blue Alley’ is a lovely little floral picture using just the one shade - blue! So you’ll need a little bit of variation between light and dark to be able to create shapes out of your paint. Want to give it a go? Follow this link to the website here: loosewatercolours.com
If you’d like to be notified as to when there’s a new tutorial available, or if you’d just looking for a little bit of watercolour inspiration, why not join the Loose Watercolour Beginners’ Facebook Group? With over five thousand members, it’s a friendly platform to post your work - after all, you should be proud of it! And there’s all sorts of tips and tricks on the site as to how you can improve your watercolour techniques! If you’d like to join in, here’s the link: https://m.facebook.com/groups/753969806117098/?ref=share
And that’s not all! If florals are your thing, there’s also another Facebook group entirely dedicated to painting pretty flowers! It’s been lovely to see all of your work so far, and I’m very impressed with all of your bright petals and leafy bouquets! If you’d like to join, here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/541116981763447
In terms of my own painting this week, I did a spot of plein air painting in one of the local villages. I found this nice little spot that was a quiet place to paint, and I think it turned out quite well! What do you think?
And speaking of someone else this week, Toby’s been on the lookout for snacks. He’s yet to find any though, and if you hear a faint snuffle, it’s him still searching…
In other news this week, you can now rewatch past live broadcasts on YouTube via the Members Group. If you loved painting that tulip five months ago and fancy giving it another go, or just if you’d like to have a catalogue of live broadcasts at your disposal to paint from, this is the perfect way to practice your loose watercolours. Here’s the link should you want to become a member: loosewatercolours.com/product-category/memberships
And if you’d like to further elevate your painting, why not treat yourselves to a set of Loose Gang brushes? You can buy the whole set, or just individually if there’s one you’d really like to try. Here’s the link: https://loosewatercolours.com/product-category/loose-gang
That’s all from me and Toby this week, as there’s a delicious smell wafting up from the kitchen, which can only mean one thing - it’s dinnertime! The live broadcast is tonight at 7pm GMT, so you won’t have long to wait for more watercolour fun!
This week’s paid tutorial is ‘Poppy Twins,’ and it’s at the end of this post as a huge thank you to all of you paid subscribers - after all, it’s only with your help that keeps this Substack running. I hope you all enjoy painting along!
Until next time, though, it’s goodbye from Toby and I! Have a lovely week, and in the meantime, happy painting!
