Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of Loose Watercolours! Those of you with eagle eyes may have noticed that there was no Substack post last week - that’s because we had a couple of technical difficulties on our end. But don’t worry! We’re back this week with more watercolours than ever! And how was your week? Did you have a nice time? Did you get some nice weather? Did you get some painting done? However you spent your days, it’s Monday again, so it’s time to relax and refresh in time for the new week.
For those of you that joined us for last week’s live broadcast, I hope you all enjoyed painting along to ‘Room with a View,’ where we created a lovely little lakeside scene. A tranquil nature picture, we had some fun with vibrant pinks and oranges, as well as various shades of green to create the foliage. And I reckon it showed in the result! If you’d like to join in the fun this week, the broadcast is on at the usual time of 8pm GMT, and tonight’s subject is ‘Potty Geranium’. Here’s the link to join in: https://loosewatercolours.com/live-broadcast/
Now if you fancy a bit of a challenge, then you’re in luck! The new Patreon tutorial, ‘City Scape’, is one to try out if you’re feeling confident with your brush skills - but don’t worry! It looks trickier than it actually is. And with the weather we’ve been having recently, it perfectly captures what it looks like to be outside at the moment - well, in a big city at least. If you’re feeling brave, you can give it a go here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
And that’s not all in terms of tutorials this week! There’s also a new addition to the loosewatercolours.com roster - ‘Allium Glow.’ If, like me, you can’t get enough of florals, this is the perfect one to practice your petals with. It’s also got some vibrant hues that will remind you of summery scenes, especially now that the nights are drawing in as we get closer and closer to the end of the year. Give it a go on the website here: loosewatercolours.com
If you’d like to be notified as to when new tutorials are posted and you haven’t yet joined the Loose Watercolour Beginners Facebook group, what are you waiting for? It’s an incredibly welcoming group with over five thousand members, so you’ll see lots of lovely artwork posted every day, and you’ll never miss a live broadcast again! Here’s the link to join: https://m.facebook.com/groups/753969806117098/?ref=share
And that’s not all! If florals are your thing, there’s also another Facebook group entirely dedicated to painting pretty flowers! It’s been lovely to see all of your work so far, and I’m very impressed with all of your bright petals and leafy bouquets! I’ve been out and about a fair bit this past fortnight on the loose watercolours circuit - I put on a demonstration of the style in Chesterfield for a hundred people! Phew. But it all went incredibly smoothly, especially because there were plenty of biscuits. And I, like Lady Gaga, need biscuits to put on a show!
And of course, I got a little bit of plein air practice in this week as well. Here’s my floral practice for the week,' ‘Magnolia in Summer Time.’ What do you think? I like how the flowers stand out against the dramatic colouring of the background - it makes them seem more vibrant.
That’s all from Toby and I this week, as we’re off to see if we can find another blanket or two hiding in the cupboard. After all, it’s starting to get a little chilly in here. As per usual, there’s an exclusive tutorial at the end of this post especially for paid subscribers - after all, it’s your support that helps keep this Substack running! So I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Misty Flower Days’ this week. I can’t wait to see how you all get on!
In the meantime, though, it’s goodbye from us - have a wonderful week, and happy painting!
