Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of loose watercolours! Surprise, surprise, it’s me back in your inboxes again. How’s your week been? Hopefully you’ve had a touch nicer weather than it’s been over here. Did you get any painting done? Did you have time to relax and put your feet up? If so, good. If not, hopefully this week is a little bit more laid back, with some time to paint along the way!
Last week’s live broadcast was great fun, and it was fantastic to see so many of you joining in! The theme was ‘Autumn Florals,’ and it was a bright and cheerful subject despite the wind starting to pick up outside our windows. I’ve seen some of your renditions on the Loose Watercolours Facebook Group, and I have to say, colour me impressed! I think you’ve all done an excellent job!
If you’d like to join in this week, the live broadcast is on at 7pm GMT, and this week’s subject is ‘Woodland Mushroom.’ Here’s the link if you’d like to give it a go: https://loosewatercolours.com/live-broadcast/
There’s also another Wash & Line tutorial available on Patreon this week, ‘Sailor Sam.’ It’s a fun little design, a slightly more cartoon style, which makes it even more fun! Wash & Line techniques require slightly more control of the brush to create the dramatic outline, so it’s a great one to practice if you want to push the boat out, ahem, if you’ll pardon the pun. And that’s not all! There’s also another tutorial on the loosewatercolours.com website now, the lovely little ‘Blue Alley.’ Ten points if you can guess where the title inspiration came from. This little number is a great one to practice suggesting the idea of movement and light, especially through the shadows of the people and the perspective from the buildings. Give it a go here! loosewatercolours.com
And if you’d like to get notified as soon as a new tutorial is posted, why not join in the painting fun over at Loose Watercolour Beginners over on Facebook? You’ll never miss a live broadcast again. There’s also a community of over five thousand beginner painters sharing beautiful work - so perfect for inspiration - and there’s all sorts of helpful tips and tricks being posted to help you along in your watercolour journey. It’s a lot of fun! You can find the link to the group here: https://m.facebook.com/groups/753969806117098/?ref=share
If you’re looking for something a little bit more exclusive, there’s also a new Facebook group that’s just been formed, focusing entirely on loose florals and flowers. So if petals and pansies are your favourite thing to paint, you’re in luck! Get yourselves over there now and have some floral fun! Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/541116981763447
In terms of my own painting, I got up to quite a lot this week - namely practicing some plein air in Newark. I found a lovely little spot down by the bridge, as I was especially inspired by all of the red and green tones here, which I felt came out in the finished painting. What do you think?
And of course, I got up to some more painting this week, but just was limited by the slightly terrible weather. So this is Autumn Café, inspired by the change in seasons.
That’s all from me this week, as I’ve just had a whiff of something delicious - and that means my lunch is ready. As always, though, there’s an extra special exclusive tutorial at the end of this post, as a thank you to all of you paid subscribers - after all, it’s your help that keeps this Substack running. This week’s subject is ‘Scruffy Dog,’ in homage to our very own Toby, the mascot of loosewatercolours.com. I hope you all enjoy painting along!
I’ll be back in your inboxes very soon, but in the meantime, it’s goodbye, and happy painting!
