How are we all doing this week? I’ve just returned from a little painting adventure in Paris – and yes, I took the brushes along for the ride! One sketch was done right by the Notre Dame (with a lovely cold beer in hand), and the other in the charming little backstreets for a game of Boule.

There's just something extra magical about painting outdoors in a city like that — the atmosphere, the architecture, the wine! But enough about my holiday — let’s dive into what’s new in our lovely loose watercolour world this week…

A big thank you to everyone who joined in for this week’s live broadcast, ‘Purple Floral Pot’! This was such a relaxing and satisfying one to paint – a lovely mix of purple tones and playful petal shapes, all coming together in a sweet little container. If you missed it live, you can still catch the replay and paint along whenever suits you!

Boule & Street near Notre Dame with a nice beer!

What could be better than a stroll around one of the world's most glamorous cities with The Loose Gang? Well, a beer thrown in makes it even better!

So I got the chance to watch and paint a sedate evening’s game of Boule, which was quite charming, and then, after seeing the newly rebuilt Notre Dame Cathedral, I took a seat just next to the Seine river and enjoyed the painting and refreshment…Bliss!

‘Wetness of Paper’ this week’s free tutorial is all about mastering Wetness of Paper. It may sound basic, but it’s one of the most powerful tools in your watercolour toolkit. The right amount of moisture lets your paint flow and blend beautifully — that dreamy, loose effect we’re always chasing. Watch it a couple of times and then give it a go. You’ll see the difference right away!
