French fever
I can smell the Mediterranean from here
Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s edition of Loose Watercolours! How’s your week been? Good, I hope. It’s a shorter edition from me this week, and that’s because I’m currently away o
n my holidays! That’s right. I’m currently sitting pretty in the south of France - near Arles, in fact, and have been enjoying a spot of painting out and about in the French countryside. It’s the land of Van Gogh, Monet, and Renoir, and I’ve been making the most of the beautiful scenery. You can see why everyone flocked to France for some light landscape practice!
Provence is absolutely stunning, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying myself - in fact, it’s been quite the adventure. I’ve been painting loose watercolours all over the place. One spot in particular, the Musée Angladon, proved especially inspirational, and if you look carefully, you might even spot moi over on their Instagram page.
And that’s not all! I’ve also been out and about enjoying the local food and culture - I’m especially a fan of pain au chocolats, and I even tried a French film or two. Unfortunately, though, I’m rather limited in my French knowledge, and the film didn’t have any subtitles, which made for an interesting mix. Ah well. I think I got the gist of it.
But I’m just checking in this week, mainly as I don’t have access to my computer, so it’s all analogue this time, I’m afraid. Tutorials and the status quo will be back quicker than you can say croissant, but until then, enjoy these scenic views of the south of France!
If all this talk of holidays has made you inspired, why not join me on my next one? If you’ve got some free time and fancy painting, why not join me in beautiful Portugal from the 17th to the 24th October 2026, where you can enjoy a seven day watercolour holiday with five days tuition! You’ll stay at an amazing four star hotel, the Vila Do Obidos, and have a fantastic time painting all of the beautiful sights of the Iberian Peninsula.

That’s all from me this week, as I’ve still got another few days of painting left. In fact, I think the sun is starting to set, and it might just be the perfect moment for a spot of plein air in the golden hour. We’ll be back to the normal programming again next week, but until then, I hope you all have a lovely time!
Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next time, it’s goodbye from us both. Have a fantastic week, and happy painting!
