Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s edition of Loose Watercolours! How’s your week been? Absolutely fabulous, I hope. It seems that spring is here again, and the flowers are in bloom all around the village, so I’ve had some wonderful floral inspiration this week. There seems to be crocuses everywhere the eye can see! So Toby and I have been enjoying the lovely splashes of colour.

It was lovely to see you all at the last live broadcast, which was ‘Spring Mug.’ If you’re looking to paint more over this year, why not come along to one of the live broadcasts? They’re usually on Monday nights at 8pm GMT, and you can watch them by popping along here: loosewatercolours.com

In fact, why not take look at some of these fantastic paintings that you’ve all done? Let me know if you can spot yours - there’s a lovely line up this week.

If you’re wanting to practice your painting skills this week, then why not head over to the loose watercolour website? There’s a brand new tutorial, ‘Sunglow Meadow,’ that’s a perfect seasonal treat for you to try. You can give it a go by following the link here: https://loosewatercolours.com/academy/all-tutorials/

Toby and I have been on a little adventure this week - we’ve been making the most of the lovely weather - and we went on a little outing to Lyveden, in Northamptonshire. It’s a National Trust property, dating back to 1500 - it’s an Elizabethan house, and there were lots of interesting nooks and crannies to explore.

One thing that really stood out was just how much graffiti there was - lots of names had been etched into the stone over the centuries, which was really interesting! And there seems to have been some artists stopping by over the years, given that there were some carvings of birds as well.

I was particularly inspired by the trip, and I thought you all might find it interesting too. So much so that I’ve actually added these pictures as references to Patreon if you want to practice your line drawing skills.

All in all, a very rewarding day out!

Lyveden, in Northamptonshire.
Lots of names. And look at those birds!

In terms of my own painting this week, I’ve been making the most of this perfect plein air weather. I’ve been out and about exploring all of the lovely local gardens in bloom, and here’s a painting that I feel worked particularly well. What do you think?

A spot of plein air.

And if you’re feeling inspired after all of that, why not give this free tutorial a go? ‘So Loose’ is a lovely little floral number, perfect for any spring-themed crafts you might want to try. Let me know how you get on with this one!

Are you looking for a new hobby now that spring has sprung? Or maybe you’re looking for that perfect present for any Easter-adjacent birthdays? If so, why not treat yourselves to a set of Loose Gang brushes? If you’re interested, you can find them by following the link here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours/shop/loose-gang-brush-set-28089?source=storefront

That’s all from me, as Toby and I have some more interesting places to explore now that the sun is shining. As always, however, this week there’s an exclusive tutorial available especially for all of you lovely paid subscribers - after all, it’s your support that helps keep this Substack running! So I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘Two Good Apples’ this week.

Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next time, it’s goodbye from us both. Have a lovely week, and happy painting!
