Bank holiday breezes
Sun, sun, everywhere.
Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s edition of Loose Watercolours! How’s your week been? Good, I hope. It’s been a bank holiday this week, and that means that summer is almost here. Well, between you and me, it feels like summer’s been already, especially with the heat outside. It feels like May’s the new August this year - not that I’m complaining. Just means I need to top up with the sun cream before I practice some outdoor painting.
It was lovely to see you all at the last live broadcast, which on a Tuesday this week - ‘Red Pot Day.’ If you’re looking to paint more over this year, why not come along to one of the broadcasts? They’re usually live on Monday nights at 8pm GMT, and you can watch them by popping along here: loosewatercolours.com & Patreon. Either one is fine, as I broadcast on both at once.
And if you’re looking for some loose inspiration, why not take a look at some of these beautiful paintings of last week’s broadcast, ‘Curious Pathway?’ I think they all turned out fantastically well. Let me know if you can spot yours!
If you want some painting practice this week, why not head over to Patreon, where you can give ‘Quick Magic Floral’ a try? It does what it says on the tin, if you ask me - it’s quick, it’s magic, and it’s a floral. If you want to paint along, follow the link here: https://www.patreon.com/cw/andrewgeesonloosewatercolours
There’s also another new tutorial over on the website as well if you fancy some more painting. This week’s is called ‘Patio Floral,’ and you can watch it by visiting loosewatercolours.com.
And finally, there’s another loose watercolour for you to try out this week, ‘Simple Flowers.’ You can try it by watching the video below, so let me know how you get on.
If you want another go at recreating some of my paintings without a tutorial this week, then there’s three below to choose from. I thought I’d give you a choice of interiors this week, so why not give it a try, and see what happens? Remember, the loose style is all about seeing what magic happens on the paper, so don’t worry too much about getting bogged down with all the details.
Are you planning your summer holidays? What about in autumn? If you’ve got some free time and fancy painting, why not join me in beautiful Portugal from the 17th to the 24th October 2026, where you can enjoy a seven day watercolour holiday with five days tuition! You’ll stay at an amazing four star hotel, the Vila Do Obidos, and have a fantastic time painting all of the beautiful sights of the Iberian Peninsula.
If you’d like to find out more, you can visit Alpha Painting Holidays at alphapaintingholidays.com, by mobile phone at +44 (0) 1934 733877, or by email at joinus@alphapaintingholidays.com.
Are you looking at getting some new brushes this summer? Or perhaps a birthday present for the artist in your life? If so, then why not take a look at your very own set of Loose Gang brushes? That’s all from me this week, as I’m still recovering from this mini heatwave. Toby and I are taking cover inside the house, as it’s too hot to stay outside for too long. That doesn’t stop the kettle though, and a cup of tea is just as refreshing when it’s warm out as when it’s cold! As always, however, this week there’s an exclusive tutorial available especially for all of you lovely paid subscribers - after all, it’s your support that helps keep this Substack running! So I hope you all enjoy painting along to ‘River and Rays.’
Toby and I will be back in your inboxes very soon, but until next time, it’s goodbye from us both. Have a lovely week, and happy painting!
